Despite the travails of teachers, who are either protesting for their salary arrears, asking for salary increases or trying to hold on to their jobs, the Education Department is ready to push on with a massive infrastructure project that will see 200 lower primary schools renovated at a cost of Rs 40 lakh each.
This was announced today by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui at a function at Nongthliew Secondary School in Mairang, West Khasi Hills.
The function was to inaugurate the school’s new building, which was opened by Speaker of the Assembly and local MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh informed the gathering that the state government is preparing to construct a community college at the Tirot Sing Memorial College, Mairang.
“I am looking forward to the time that the Education Department introduces the science stream in the higher secondary schools of the region,” Lyngdoh said.
