Two members of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) are undergoing the Advanced Mountaineering Course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
The two climbers are Valarie Suchiang from Shangpung, West Jaintia Hills, and Rilang Dkhar of Umshaken, Ri-Bhoi.
In a press release today, MeSCMA president Malviancy Shabong informed that the course began yesterday and will run until November 15.
The pair of climbers were selected by the MeSCMA and sponsored by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Suchiang and Dkhar completed their Basic Mountaineering Course from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Arunachal Pradesh in March this year with A grades – the highest they could get – and were thus recommended for the advanced course, which requires climbers to be physically and mentally fit and have a positive and adventurous attitude, Shabong said.
