Two Meghalayans, Aiden W Syiem and Dalarympei Kharmawphlang, were, along with one Santasil Mallik, behind a “multi-sensorial art exhibition of experimental films alongside live sound performances and culinary curation” in New Delhi yesterday.
The event was held at the Art Culture Festival and was conceptualised, curated and performed by the trio.
The central idea was to find abstract and embodied connections between visuals, sound and taste. Over 25 short experimental films were screened and curated globally by Sphere Festival. Taking cues from these works, the sound/live score (Syiem alongside Foamfleckt and Metachasm) and culinary (Atticus) curators accordingly designed their performance and exhibition respectively.
While the sound/music was mainly in the form of a live ambient noise score focusing on spontaneous responses to the visuals, the culinary component consisted of canapés. The theme of their exhibition was organized around the ideas and motifs of migration, mobility and movement, touching upon the myriad interpretations of these terms in the contemporary socio-political and cultural landscape.
