Only two Meghalaya police personnel were chosen to receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
The Union ministry of home affairs, on the eve of the 77th Independence Day, bestowed medals upon 954 police personnel from across the nation.
As per the list, Havildar Lumlang John Malngiang, District Executive Force and Havildar Ram Phawa of the Police Training School Umran will receive the PM along with 642 personnel from other states.
Further, Brightstone D. Shira who is serving as Havildar in the Prisons and Correctional Service Department has been conferred the Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service.
Two Fire Service personnel from the State have also been awarded the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service. They are Dawrupaia Passah (Leading Fireman) and Iengborsing Majaw (Fireman).
Moreover, two Home Guards personnel from the State have been conferred with the Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service. They are Bakstar Mynsong who is the Sub-Inspector and Ram Charles Lamare who is a Havildar.
President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) will be awarded to one CRPF personnel whereas Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) will be awarded to 229 personnel. The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) will be awarded to 82 personnel.
“Among the majority of the 230 Gallantry Awards, 125 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 71 personnel from Jammu & Kashmir region and 11 personnel from North East region are being awarded for their gallant action. Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 28 are from CRPF, 33 are from Maharashtra, 55 are from J&K Police, 24 are from Chhattisgarh, 22 are from Telangana and 18 are from Andhra Pradesh the remaining from the other States/UTs and CAPFs,” an official statement said.
“President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is awarded on the grounds of Conspicuous Gallantry in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals, while the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is awarded for a special distinguished record in Police Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) is awarded for valuable service characterized by resource and devotion to duty.”
