Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya yesterday apprehended a Bangladeshi national near the international border in South West Khasi Hills.
Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the 1st Battalion BSF conducted a special operation near Kanai border outpost and apprehended a Bangladeshi national, identified as Tonik Hajong (38), a resident of Netrakona district in Bangladesh. He was in possession of Bangladesh Taka 2,37,500 (equivalent to around Rs 1.66 lakh), which the BSF, in a press release today, said was “intended for illegal cross-border activities”.
In a separate operation on the same day, the 4th Battalion BSF seized cosmetic items valued at Rs 15 lakh. A special patrol team confronted a group of four to five miscreants attempting to smuggle goods across the border. Upon being challenged, the miscreants left behind head loads containing cosmetic items and fled towards the jungle.
Hajong was given over to local police for further legal action while the cosmetics were handed to Customs officials.
