As many as 19 members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) are planning to contest the 2023 Assembly elections. Of these two are women.
While KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne is contesting from Sohra on UDP ticket, leader of opposition Pynshngain N. Syiem will be the Congress candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
Four sitting MLAs who are also members of KHADC are also in the race for the 2023 polls. Two of them are contesting on UDP tickets and are Lambor Malngiang (Nongkrem) and Pius Marwein (Ranikor).
Two others are contesting on NPP ticket and included Gigur Myrthong (Mawshynrut) and Pyniaid Sing Syiem (Mawryngkneng).
The other Congress MDCs who are in the race for the upcoming Assembly polls are Ronnie V. Lyngdoh (Mylliem), Carness Sohshang (Mawkyrwat), Gabriel Wahlang (Nongstoin), Batskhem Ryntathiang (Mairang) and Charles Marngar (Mawhati).
The NPP MDCs who are contesting the Assembly polls are Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie (Mawsynram), Teibor Pathaw (Mawlai) and two women – Macdalyn Sawkmie Mawlong (Nongpoh) and Grace Mary Kharpuri (Shella).
From the UDP, the contestants are Paul Lyngdoh (Shillong West) and Mitchel Wankhar (Mylliem).
Veteran politician and former Assembly Speaker Bindo M. Lanong who is expecting a UDP ticket has decided to contest as an independent candidate from Nongkrem if he is denied party ticket. Lanong is currently the nominated MDC.
Another veteran political figure and former minister Martle N. Mukhim who is also a sitting MDC from Mawkynrew is contesting the upcoming polls on HSPDP ticket.
