Sixteen youths from Garo Hills have been stranded in Mumbai after an alleged agent promised to provide them a job at a private company.
The ACHIK Krima Council, Southern Zone, Baghmara has filed an FIR in this regard against a man identified as Pijush R Marak, a resident of Pandoba Remakona under Lakhipur police station in Assam.
According to the filed with the officer in charge of Baghmara Police station, Pijush promised the youths jobs in the Elenti Pvt Ltd Company in Mumbai and after taking them there left them with the company.
It was alleged in the FIR that the youths, majority of them from South Garo Hills, are being treated like slaves and not being paid any salary.
The youths following their ordeal had contacted Pijush and complained of their situation but were ignored. ACHIK said that no attempt was made by him to bring the stranded youths back to Garo Hills.
The organisation also said it suspects Pijush of working as a broker for the company.
The victims of the alleged job scam include Senbar A Sangma of Mahadeo (SGH), Rakkam T Sangma, Kismat Ch Marak, Silman Ch Marak and Tengsubirth R Marak all of Rongsak (EGH), Luksan Ch Marak of Chokpot (SGH), Brenian N Marak, Jense N Marak, Chanang T Sangma, Manrik R Marak, Checheng T Sangma and Juli N Marak of Rongara (SGH), Toseng D Sangma, Tengjim B Marak, Breliant P Marak and Gutren D Sangma all from Bajengdoba (NGH).
The FIR has urged the police department to take necessary initiatives to bring back the youths to Garo Hills as well as to take action against the accused as per appropriate sections of law.
