Shillong Traffic Police (STP) logged 119 cases from October 1 to November 5 of illegal modification to exhaust pipes to produce excessive noise.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said today that each offence was liable for a fine of Rs 5,000.
He said that the drive against illegally modified exhausts will continue and he urged that all motor vehicles with such exhausts have theirs replaced with the originals. Syiem also encouraged vehicle owners not to use unauthorised dark window film, sirens or blinkers.
