Shillong/Jowai, Oct 23: The Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme was held at Dadenggre C and RD Block, aiming to empower the youth of Meghalaya through cultural exposure, leadership building, and skill development.
The programme was organised by the District Sports Officer, West Garo Hills district, in collaboration with the Dadenggre C & RD Block.
The programme aimed to prepare young individuals to be ambassadors of Meghalaya at national and global platforms, promoting heritage and leadership skills.
Various events were held, including Poetry Writing, Story Writing, Painting, Declamation, Guitar (Solo category), Folk Song, Folk Dance, Quiz, Innovation in Science and Technology, and Handicraft Exhibition (Group category).
Speaking at the event, Junior Rural Development Officer Derani K Sangma emphasised the importance of nurturing talents and developing skills, stating, “Students showing their talents in this platform will not only help them grow and nurture their talents but also shape their personality in future.” Certificates and prizes were awarded to winners, encouraging young talents to become productive citizens.
Officers and staff of District Sports Office, West Garo Hills, teachers, and students from Dadenggre area participated in the programme. Selected students will participate in state-level competitions, with potential opportunities to represent Meghalaya at national and international events.
In West Jaintia Hills, the programme was organised at Namdong B wherein a total of 125 students and teachers took part.
Damian War, Headman Namdong ‘B’ K Passah, Assistant Director Sports & Youth Affairs, Headman of Mookhnang village, heads of schools, members of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society and Shiborlang Sumer, Junior Engineer of Namdong C&RD Block attended the programme.
