A youth who was going to the Cherry Blossom Festival at Madan Kurkalang in Umroi today lost his life as his bike met with an accident near ICAR complex.
The bike bearing registration number ML05-AD-0566 was rammed by a police escort vehicle which was leading a convoy of VIPs at around 5:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Hoderfield Rymbui from Nongtalang village in West Jaintia Hills.
A female pillion rider who was injured was rushed to Holy Cross Hospital at Umsaw for medical treatment.
The incident occurred on the first day of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Meanwhile, a huge traffic jam was witnessed along the road to the festival site as thousands of revelers who had bought tickets throng to reach Madan Kurkalang.
