The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has condemned the continued delay in the recruitment of primary school teachers in the State and questioned the government’s commitment towards the education sector.
MPYC President Timjim K Momin said despite multiple assurances from the state government, thousands of Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (M.TET)-passed candidates are still awaiting recruitment, while government schools continue to face severe teacher shortages.
While the Education Minister on January 24 assured that advertisements for teacher recruitment would be issued within one or two days, Momin said more than two months have passed, and no recruitment notification has been released. “This inaction reflects the government’s failure to fulfill its promises and address the rising unemployment crisis in the state,” he added.
With over 500 teaching positions remaining vacant as confirmed by Director of Education, Swapnil Tembe on February 14, the youth Congress said the government has taken no concrete steps to fill the vacancies, affecting not just aspiring teachers but also thousands of students who are being deprived of quality education due to staff shortages.
The MPYC has demanded immediate commencement of the hiring process which is transparent.
