Khliehriat, Sep 8:  A 26-year old youth was attacked by unknown persons at Pynurkba, East Jaintia Hills late Monday night.

The assailants also vandalised two cars, smashing their windows and windshields.

According to locals, the incident stemmed from a tussle that broke out today between Bataw and Pynurkba over land dispute. The two villages in East Jaintia Hills are claiming ownership of the land in Lyngkien Tariang.

Sources said the youth was returning from Shillong to submit his application for recruitment to the Border Security Force (BSF).

They said on reaching Pynurkba he was attacked by unknown people with sharp weapons, who also vandalised two cars bearing registration number ML-11-3835 and ML-04-8163.

The injured youth, Sincerity Lyngdoh was immediately rushed to Bataw PHC for medical attention.

Earlier in the day, Waheh Shnong of Bataw Deihok Sumer claimed that villagers of Bataw were threatened that they would not be allowed to pass through Pynurkba.
