Shillong, Dec 12: A four-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening AI readiness and digital transformation in higher education successfully concluded at the Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU) at its campus in Balalgre, South West Garo Hills, on Thursday.
The four-day programme, held from December 8 to11, was organised in collaboration with Shillong’s St Anthony’s College and supported by the North Eastern Council.
As AI-driven tools rapidly reshape global education, marked by innovations such as ChatGPT reaching 100 million users within two months, institutions in the North East are preparing to address emerging opportunities and challenges, including academic integrity, algorithmic bias, and ethical implementation.
This initiative offered a structured framework for integrating AI tools into teaching, learning, and research, an official press release said today. By equipping educators with adaptable skills and fostering collaborative academic networks, the programme transformed AI from a potential academic concern into an asset for strengthening critical thinking, research excellence and institutional innovation.
Resource persons provided hands-on training to the faculty and academic administrators across the region, building essential skills in responsible AI use. Participants engaged in sessions on AI literacy, prompt engineering, critical evaluation of AI-generated content and verification strategies designed to uphold scholarly rigour while enhancing research productivity.
The workshop was inaugurated by Hema Nayak, Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, on December 11 in the presence of its convener, Temjenkala Jamir, and organising committee members, Earic Wanlambok Sohtun and Rajesh M Marak of the Department of Philosophy at CWSSU.
