A two-day workshop on professional development programme for school science teachers was organised by the Chemistry Department, Sankardev College in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK and Samagra Shiksha, Department of Education recently.
A total of 35 science teachers from various schools within the city and its outskirts participated in the workshop that concluded on April 5.
The workshop aimed at providing active learning techniques to science teachers of the secondary school level enabling them to make teaching-learning process interesting and engaging as well as to popularize science amongst school students through innovative techniques.
The technical session focussed on using inquiry based learning to develop critical thinking and analytical skills of the learners. The participants were also given hands-on training in making teaching resources for experiments to be carried out in classroom using easily available materials.
Certificates were awarded to the participants of the workshop.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Jaya Swaminathan, Teacher Developer, Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.
The workshop was inaugurated by Principal of Sankardev College Dr. Eureka FP Lyngdoh.
