The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in joint operations with state police, seized more than 33 tonnes of sugar along the international border in South Garo Hills.
The sugar was intercepted before it could be smuggled over into Bangladesh on April 7.
Acting on specific information, jawans of the 01 and 200 Battalions in collaboration with Meghalaya police launched a joint operation, which led to the seizure of a large cache of sugar from the forest area and an abandoned house located in close proximity to the international border.
The seized sugar was handed over to the concern police station for further action, the BSF said.
