Opportunities for women empowerment should be a priority rather than just offering sympathy or attention, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the Lumkyrwiang Urban Health Centre in West Jaiñtia Hills today, Lyngdoh emphasised on the importance of empowering women through access to quality health care services.
She said opening up of the health centre on the International Women’s Day adds a special significance to the occasion symbolising a commitment to the health and well-being of women in the community.
Lyngdoh extended her gratitude to the Kur Soo Kpoh Khadar Wyrnai for donating the land for the construction of the centre.
The Health Minister urged the staff nurse to focus on adolescent health, especially teenage girls by addressing their unique healthcare needs and providing guidance, education, medical attention tailored to their age group. She stressed on focusing on the specific challenges and concerns faced by teenage girls such as reproductive health, and mental wellbeing.
She also urged the pharmacies to ensure medicines are not in short supply within the centre and to indent on time when facing shortages.
Jowai MLA Wailadiki Shyla, Deputy Commissioner Batlang S Sohliya and President Kur SooKpoh Khadar Wyrnai and Dalio Elaka Jowai Puramon Kynjing also spoke on the occasion.
