Chairperson of the Assembly committee on women empowerment Santa Mary Shylla has stated that the condition of the woman, who was brutally assaulted at Lower Teksragre in Dadenggre, West Garo Hills, has improved.
Shylla visited the victim who is currently receiving care at the One Stop Centre in Tura on July 2.
Recently a video went viral that showed a group of men severely beating up a woman with bamboo sticks on the premises of a school. Based on the video, police arrested six men involved in the case.
Meanwhile, Shylla also chaired a meeting to discuss various issues, especially crimes against women and children at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Shylla highlighted that the meeting covered several critical issues concerning the two districts, with a special emphasis on crimes against women and children.
She stated that the committee plans to address these issues with the government, noting the need for resources such as shelter homes and psychiatric services.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, the Superintendent of Police of South West Garo Hills, and other officials and members of the committee Marthon J Sangma, Matthew B Kurbah, Brightstarwell Marbaniang, Gabriel Wahlang, and Damanbiat Lamare.
