The William Carey University Football Club (WCUFC) concluded its first Futsal Knockout Tournament with an exciting grand finale at GR Turf, Nongmensong.
The tournament featured 32 participating teams from across the state, highlighting the university’s active role in youth development and community engagement through sports.
The final match was a fiercely contested showdown between Umkdait Block 4 FC and J Khriem FC, with J Khriem FC emerging as champions. Umkdait Block 4 FC secured a well-earned second place.
The closing ceremony was graced by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Soma Bhowmick who presented the trophies and commended the efforts of all the teams and organizers. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to nurturing youth potential both academically and athletically.
Registrar Dr. PGJ Richard expressed gratitude to all participating teams, volunteers, and community members. He noted that such initiatives align with William Carey University’s mission to empower youth and strengthen community bonds, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). He also called on all clubs, participants, audiences, and the wider community to continue collaborating and working together to support the growth of healthy, empowered youth.
The event celebrated not just football, but the transformative power of sports in fostering unity, character, and meaningful community connections.
