Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala has alleged that only Congress supporters were arrested after clashes broke out with those of the National People’s Party (NPP) at Garodubi village in Rajabala constituency yesterday.
“What the government is doing is that they are arresting only the Congress workers. They did not arrest those people who started the pelting of stones on our people,” Pala told media persons on the sidelines of a programme today.
The MPCC chief also informed that he will be speaking to the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills concerning the incident.
He also said that he was trying to reach out to the state Chief Electoral Officer, Frederick Roy Kharkongor.
“I want to tell him, whatever action should be taken, it should be for both sides and not only one side,” the Shillong MP said.
Pala also alleged that the incident was not spur of the moment but was well-planned.
“(It) might be the government, or especially the NPP, knows that the Congress is strong, so they are trying to find ways and means to stop and threaten the people,” Pala said.
He said that the Congress workers retaliated only after NPP party men pelted stones at them while they were returning after a meeting.
Pala also informed that the Congress has already lodged an FIR over the incident.
