The Jowai Municipal Board will start collection of waste starting from Iawmusiang market on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in Jowai today which was attended by West Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Garod LNS Dykes, Chief Executive Officer of the board, PK Boro, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Chairman of the board, F. War and other officials to discuss on waste management in the district headquarter.
The meeting decided that door-to door collection of waste from various localities in Jowai would begin soon. The task of the municipal board in Jowai gets a little hard as there is no provision of a permanent dumping ground.
It was also decided that waste collected would be disposed in a temporary dumping ground until issues related to a land in Mynkjai is resolved with the Khasi Students Union and the villagers there.
Rangbah Shnong of Iawmusiang, E. Shylla informed that a Co-ordination Committee was constituted by the locality dedicated towards waste management and hoped that efforts to achieve a clean surrounding would be achieved.
