Senior IAS officer Donald Philips Wahlang will take charge as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya from tomorrow.
Wahlang, a 1993 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will take charge on August 1. He succeeded Rebecca V. Suchiang, an IAS officer of 1989 batch, who retired from service today.
Currently, Wahlang is the Additional Chief Secretary in-charge of Education, PHE and Home departments.
He is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and its three subsidiaries – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited.
According to an official notification issued on July 27, Wahlang will also function as the State Vigilance Commissioner after taking charge as the new Chief Secretary of the State.
