VPP candidate, Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon today said that he has full confidence of victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat based on the groundswell of support for the party across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination papers here, Syngkon said that his party would soon release the manifesto containing the issues for the election.
“Our party goes to the people on the issue of clean governance, corruption-free governance, governance that fights against poverty and governance that is unbiased. Our stand is to protect the rights of all people,” he said.
When asked about the BJP supporting the NPP, he said that people are now seeing the true colours of the two parties.
“We leave to the wisdom of the electorates to make their decision who are well aware of the situation and I believe as a party the voters will take the right decision,” the VPP candidate said.
On the allegations that VPP is opposed to the use of Hindi as a language in the State, Syngkon said that the VPP never opposed the usage of Hindi. He said that other parties are making the allegation to gain cheap political mileage.
Further, on the mudslinging against the VPP that the party is banking on the ‘Jaitbynriew’ a Khasi work for indigenous people, Syngkon stated that the party will ensure that the interests of the non-Khasis of Meghalaya are also protected while protecting the State from illegal immigrants who come to Meghalaya.
Syngkon said that the party acknowledged the contribution made by non-Khasis who have contributed tremendously for the State. He also said that their rights should also be protected.
