The newly floated Voice of the People (VPP) will hold a rally at Polo Ground parking lot here on January 16 at 12:30 pm.
Party president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit and other party leaders will enlighten the ideology of the party and its plan of action for the State at the rally.
During the rally, the party is also likely to announce its symbol for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The VPP has so far released the first list of 14 candidates for the upcoming polls.
The 14 candidates with their constituencies are Damewanhi Rymbai (Khliehriat), Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon (Umsning), Heavingstone Kharpran (Mawryngkneng), Brightstarwell Marbaniang (Mawlai), Avner Pariat (East Shillong), Raja Jyrwa (West Shillong), Danny Langstieh (South Shillong), Aibandaplin F. Lyngdoh (Mylliem), Winston Tony Lyngdoh (Nongthymmai), Ardent M. Basaiawmoit (Nongkrem), Doristar Marbaniang (Mawphlang), Manbhalang Thabah (Pynursla), Shanlang Warjri (Mairang) and Overlin Imiong (Ranikor).
The second list is expected soon and will include the name of North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Assembly secretariat has today notified the resignation of Nongrum from his membership in the Assembly.
It may be mentioned that Nongrum, who represented the North Shillong constituency, handed over his resignation to Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh at the Assembly secretariat here yesterday. His resignation was accepted.
Nongrum has joined the VPP and has also addressed party meetings at Smit and Motphran.
So far 13 MLAs have resigned ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections reducing the strength of the House from 60 to 47.
