The Voice of the People Party (VPP) today proposed the name of party loyalist Mathew Keneth Makdoh as nominated MDC of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The VPP MDCs met Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar and proposed Makdoh’s name to him.
Makdoh is a member of the VPP from Ri-Bhoi and had contested the KHADC election earlier this year from Nongpoh constituency but lost to Rona Khymdeit of the National People’s Party (NPP).
Speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah said that the VPP paid a courtesy call on Vijayashankar. “We have not met him since we formed the executive committee (EC),” Rynjah said.
The VPP holds an absolute majority in the KHADC and will increase its strength in the council if the Governor names Makdoh as the nominated member. Last month, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government, which is led by the NPP, would abide by the KHADC rules and not oppose the name put forward by the EC.
