The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) has expressed strong opposition to the state government’s plan to convert the Conservation Training Institute (CTI) in Byrnihat for an industrial area.
A party delegation, led by Nongkrem MLA and VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit, conducted an inspection of the CTI, which the government aims to relocate to Mawkhanu on the outskirts of Shillong.
Accompanying Basaiawmoit during the inspection were Mawlai MLA Brightstar Marbaniang, Mawryngkneng MLA Heavingstone Kharpran and other VPP leaders.
The inspection involved a thorough review of the working facilities and surroundings of the CTI, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Soil and Water Conservation Department.
Addressing the media, Basaiawmoit emphasised that the VPP is firmly against any attempt by the government to convert the CTI into an industrial area.
He further revealed that the party had already submitted a written objection to the government regarding this proposal but yet to receive any response. Additionally, Basaiawmoit stated that he had raised the issue in the state Assembly, urging the government to reconsider but no reply has been forthcoming so far.
Basaiawmoit and party leaders met the local people of the Byrnihat area to explain to them about the government’s plan to convert the CTI Byrnihat area into an industrial area and he appealed to them to stand with the VPP in opposing the government’s plan.
