The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills claiming that several villages under Selsella block have been left out of the distribution of supplies that were provided as flood relief last year.
In a complaint submitted today, AMMSU said that Namabilla, Haripur, Konarchar, Silkata, Char Kasiapara, Lalmati, Hallidayganj, Kasaripara, Sakmal and Sobribari are among the villages in the district that have been left out of being provided relief.
Last year, the plains belt, comprising the four blocks of Raksamgre, Tikrikilla, Demdema and Selsella, had been badly affected by the monsoon deluge, leading to many villagers struggling with rising waters. Food relief as well as animal feed were then provided to those affected.
Later, the state government also added utensils to the list of supplies, with all villages that were affected meant to be provided the items to make up for the losses they suffered due to the deluge.
AMMSU, however, said today that the villages named in its complaint were yet to receive their part of the relief.
