Village leaders of Nongsier Jirang village, including its headman, were apparently arrested by Ri-Bhoi police on September 17, a delayed report revealed today.
The village was the location of a recent rape case, which then led to the vandalism of the disabled victim’s house and the sacking of a social worker who helped the victim’s family file an FIR.
According to sources, those arrested by police include headman Phorming Rani, Village Employment Council Secretary Kmenlang Nonghyndah and village Secretary Incommand Thangkhiew. They were arrested in Nongpoh while there for personal reasons, sources informed.
