In a bizarre incident, one light vehicle loaded with firecrackers exploded today evening in Nongpoh but, fortunately, there were no casualties.
The incident occurred at around 5:30pm.
The centre of the incident was a Maruti Van (ML 10 B 3580), from which fire crackers were being sold for New Year celebrations.
The van was owned by one Meshan Nongrum. While testing the crackers for customers, one or more caught fire and exploded, which set the whole vehicle alight.
Onlookers helped in dousing the fire and the quick reaction probably played a part in the lack of injuries.
