University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) based in Ri-Bhoi district has been stripped of power to conduct Bachelor of Education (B Ed) course with effect from the academic session 2020-21.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in its order has withdrawn recognition to USTM for B Ed course from the academic session 2020-21.
According to the order, a show cause notice was issued by the NCTE to the university on May 18, 2019 on five points which the university failed to reply within the stipulated time.
NCTE had sought details from USTM regarding the approved faculty list, approved university building plan, building completion certificate, fixed deposit receipts towards endowment fund and reserve fund and confirmation on website updates of the university.
It may be mentioned that USTM is sponsored by ERD Foundation, Guwahati. Established in 2008, the university has a campus at Baridua in Ri-Bhoi district.
Meanwhile, the Khasi Student’s Union has sought the intervention of the Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui against the Qoumrul Hoque School of Education, University of Science and Technology in Ri-Bhoi continuing to advertise for admissions into its B.Ed course even after the National Council for Teacher’s Education – Eastern Region Council had withdrawn the recognition in 2019.
