Updated draft electoral rolls have been prepared and published by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) around the state and shared with political parties.
In East Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, the draft rolls are also available for inspection at the office of the EROs, office of the Community and Rural Development blocks and at the concerned polling stations during office hours.
The electoral roll has been prepared in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules 1960 and the qualifying date for the preparation of the electoral roll is January 1, 2025.
If, with reference to the above said qualifying date, there is any claim for the inclusion of a name in the roll or any objection to the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodged on or before November 28, 2024 in Form 6, 7 or 8 as may be appropriate. The final publication of electoral rolls will be on January 6, 2025.
Every such claim or objection should either be presented in the office of the ERO or to the designated officers at the concerned polling stations or sent by post to the office of the ERO so as to reach the office not later than the aforesaid date in East Khasi Hills or Ri-Bhoi.
In Eastern West Khasi Hills, any claim or objection should be presented at the office of the ERO or to Booth Level Officers/Supervisory Officers at designated locations, polling stations or sent by post to the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election) Eastern West Khasi Hills, Mairang so as to reach the office not later than the aforesaid date.
In West Jaintia Hills, special camps will be held on November 15, 16, 21 and 22 where officials will visit polling stations and meet the public. Awareness programmes will be conducted to inform the citizens about the electoral revision process and to make citizens understand their voting rights.
The total number of electors registered in the four constituencies of WJH have increased by around 2,000 to 1,68,853 from 1,66,728 in the rolls last published on January 5 this year.
The number of polling stations in three Assembly constituencies – Jowai, Raliang, Mowkaiaw – remains the same at 57, 55 and 55 respectively. However, in Nartiang one polling station has been added, with the total now standing at 64.
In South West Khasi Hills, the rolls are available for inspection in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat or with the appointed Booth Level Officers at designated locations and in the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawkyrwat C&RD Block and in the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Ranikor Civil Sub-Division during office hours.
Claims and objections should be presented at the DC’s office or to the appointed Booth Level Officers at designated locations or in the office of the Mawkyrwat BDO or Ranikor SDO during office hours or sent by post to the EROs via online mode.
An eligible citizen, who is going to attain the age of 18 on any of the subsequent qualifying dates in 2025, namely April 1, July 1 or October 1, may also file his or her claim for inclusion in the roll, through Form 6, in advance starting from the date of notice and the same shall be considered and decided in the respective quarter of the year with reference to the respective qualifying date.
