Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, conducted a detailed review of NEEPCO in Guwahati yesterday.
A NEEPCO press release today said that the minister “appreciated the rapid capacity addition and substantial increase in green energy generation” by the public sector utility.
Singh exhorted NEEPCO to become a 4,000MW-plus company in the next seven to eight years and assured his ministry’s full support.
NEEPCO had recently been allocated 17 large hydroelectric projects by the ministry in Arunachal Pradesh, totalling more than 6,000MW in standalone and joint venture mode.
The company contributes more than 45 percent of the energy requirements of the North East and also supplies electricity to Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa.
