Police are still trying to determine the identity of one of the victims of the brutal murder in East Jaintia Hills district even as investigation is on to identify the perpetrators of the crime.
Four bodies with hands and feet tied and cut marks in the neck were found behind Umpleng market on July 6.
Earlier, police identified the bodies as that of Nazar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East of East Jaiñtia Hills and Ravi Rai (23) of Elam village, Mechipradesh, Nepal and Rajesh Rai (26) of Dharan Sunsari village, Koshi Anchal, Nepal.
The fourth body which has not been identified till today is currently kept at the morgue of Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
Due to the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to try to identify the persons involved in the gruesome murder.
A criminal case has been registered at Khliehriat police station. Till date, no arrest has been made in connection with the crime.
Police are analysing whether the crime was committed on the spot or it was committed somewhere else and then the bodies dumped at Umpleng.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People-East Jaiñtia Hills district has condemned the horrendous murder and demanded immediate arrest of the persons involved.
District president D.Sumer said while media reports suggested that the victims could be drug peddlers no one has the right to murder anyone.
He said there is the law to deal with illegal activities and no one should take the law into their hands.
