The District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi today issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC banning the plying of vehicles in excess of 10 tonnes over Umiam Bridge.
The order also prohibited the plying of two heavy vehicles at the same time over the bridge.
This has been done in compliance with a recent Meghalaya High Court order for the urgent need to immediately regulate the flow of heavy vehicles due to the weakened condition of the Umiam bridge.
