The United Democratic Party (UDP) has said that it is high time that the people should support the regional forces in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The party, backed by another regional party, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), has began campaigning for its candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin stating that its aspirations and sentiments are akin to those of the people.
Cabinet Minister and UDP leader, Kyrmen Shylla exuded confidence that since the people of the 12 constituencies have already bestowed their love for the UDP in the Assembly polls, they will once again extend that love and support to their candidate in the MP elections.
“Many years have gone by and the regional parties haven’t had a chance to serve the people when it comes to Parliament, so it is high time that the people of Meghalaya should give a chance to the regional party also,” Shylla said.
He said that the UDP and the HSPDP under the banner of the RDA have the same issues highlighted in their election manifestoes, which the public also seek through various platforms like implementation of the ILP, inclusion of the Khasi and Garo Language in the eighth schedule of the constitution.
According to him, the aspirations of the party and the people are on common ground and since they are on the same page, why not give a chance to the representative of the regional party to make the vices of the people heard in the Parliament?
“Give us a chance once and if we cannot perform then again 2029 will come to give a chance to others. Give us a chance then only you will know. I believe this time people will give their mandate to us,” he stated.
