The long-awaited dreams of the villagers of Umsaitsning and Umsru were today translated into reality after Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong inaugurated the motorable bridge and then opened a blacktopped road that connects Umsru to Umsning via Umsaitsning.
The project was sanctioned by NABARD under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) at the estimated cost of Rs 2.80 crore.
Also present on the occasion were Umsning MLA Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, local MDC Macdalyne Mawlong, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upahdhyaya, Executive Engineer Rymphang Kharkongngor and others officials.
Addressing the function, Tynsong exhorted the local people not to be taken in by “fake news” and “derogatory remarks” made against the state government. The state government has come under intense fire of late for a string of problems with infrastructure built under its watch, including the Mawlai Bypass bridge, Inter State Bus Terminus and, most recently, the collapsed dome of the new Assembly building.
“Umsaitsing and nearby villages will benefit from the motorable bridge and new blacktopped road because of the MDA government,” Tynsong said, adding that many politicians will try to lure the people ahead of the upcoming state Assembly election but locals should not listen to lies and should take into consideration the good that the government has done.
