An organisation dubbed the New Tura Development Forum has written to the Chief Minister today to oppose any revision of the state’s job reservation policy.
The issue returned to the headlines recently after activists in Shillong, and then politicians, raked up the matter to call for a greater share of state jobs for the Khasi-Jaintia community. Currently the Garo and Khasi-Jaintia communities have an equal share of the quota – 40 percent each.
A motion has been moved in the Assembly to review and revamp the policy.
“Any move to modify and dilute or amend the policy at this juncture in the guise of it being outdated is not acceptable and thus we strongly oppose the move,” the letter from the group said, adding that the status quo should be maintained and the motion denied.
