Rajabala MLA Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi has called for better facilities for opposition legislators.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) member’s call echoes that of the Voice of the People Party (VPP). Dr Kazi wants opposition MLAs to be on an equal footing with those from the government side.
He called for those on the opposition benches to be provided with dedicated office space, a personal assistant to support the MLAs in their duties and official vehicles to facilitate their movement around their constituencies.
Dr Kazi advocated for equal treatment and facilities for all 60 MLAs, regardless of their party affiliation. He stated that the people view their elected representatives as a single entity, rather than distinguishing between ruling and opposition parties.
“People don’t understand whether we are in the ruling or opposition; all they know is that we are their elected representatives,” he said, highlighting the need for unity and equality among MLAs.
