The District Council Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), conducted a training program on the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) today.
The program aimed to raise awareness and provide guidance on registering land holdings using digital systems, in line with modern technological advancements. The initiative is part of the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of Meghalaya.
Key resource persons, including J. Marweiñ, Additional Director of Survey, James Pathaw, and Lavinia Lyngdoh, Public Awareness Volunteer, led the session.
Marweiñ, also the Member Secretary for implementing the DILRMP scheme, emphasised that the program will facilitate the digitisation of land records, preserving them and preventing loss. He clarified that the scheme will not alter the land-holding system of the Khasi-Jaintia community but will instead computerise and link the records with maps, assigning a unique pin number to each plot.
“This will prevent errors and inaccuracies, unlike the traditional system, which relies on measuring tapes, etc,” Marweiñ explained.
The training program was held at Trysem Hall, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District and was chaired by Powell Sohklet, MDC of Mawthadraishan and Executive Member in charge of Land and Forest.
Juristman Ïawphñiaw, MDC of Nongstoiñ, and other leaders, including traditional heads from various Himas and villages across the region, attended the program.
