A training and mock drill exercise on disaster management preparedness was held at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Panaliar, Jowai.
The exercise was organised by the office of the District Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with the representatives from the Fire Service & Emergency office, office of the Superintendent of Police, Civil Defence and District Medical & Health Officer.
District Disaster Management officer Dari Lyngdoh informed that the primary purpose of organising the orientation programme and mock drill was to enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response capability among hospital staff.
Station Officer (SO) Anthony Rymbai, from the office of the Fire Service and Emergency elaborated on fire safety measures and proper use of the fire extinguishers demonstrating the different types of fire extinguishers, their specific use and step by step instruction on how to operate them effectively in an emergency.
The Civil Defence personnel F Lamare demonstrated improvised search and rescue methods, handling casualties, using makeshift rescue tools and ensuring the safe evacuation of patients.
The representative from the office of the Superintendent of Police emphasised the role of police in maintaining law and order, assisting with evacuations, police and managing crowds during emergencies.
Medial Superintendent Dr. Embhah Chullet said the training and mock drill would help the Hospital Disaster Management Team and staff of the hospital better understand their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
