The 131 feet National Flag, which adorned the city at Barik Point for four months, had to be removed after it was found torn.
The half mast was unveiled on September 3 last year by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the PWD complex, which would be converted into a ‘Unity Park’. However, the green band of the tricolour flag was found damaged, likely caused by wind and authorities had to immediately remove it.
As per the Flag Code of India a damaged flag cannot be flown and can be hoisted again after repairs.
The monumental Barik National Flag made with polyester cloth and stands at a height of 40 meters, with a size of 45 feet by 30 feet.
