The Trinamool Congress (TMC) received a fillip in Jirang constituency with several members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress Party joining the party fold.
The BJP members were led by former party Ri-Bhoi vice-president Nesting Syiem. Other ex-supporters of the saffron party and some from the Congress also formally joined the TMC at a meeting in Patharkhmah yesterday.
Welcoming them to the TMC were state TMC vice-presidents George Lyngdoh and James Lyngdoh, TMC Jirang block committee president Sunnymoon Marak and others.
The TMC leaders expressed joy that the party is gaining more support from the people of the state and expressed hope that it would be able to bring about a change after next year’s state elections. They also stated that the party will bring in all-round development for the welfare of all Meghalayans, especially the common people.
