The United Democratic Party (UDP) will not be hurt at the KHADC and JHADC polls by its alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP), UDP president and Mairang MLA Metbah Lyngdoh said today.
The supposed unpopularity of the NPP in Khasi Hills is often suggested as a factor that will hurt its allies in elections. The UDP is in the coalition government led by the NPP that runs Meghalaya but the two are in opposite corners in the KHADC.
When asked if the UDP’s alliance with the NPP in the state government will dent the party’s prospects in the autonomous district council polls, Lyngdoh said that people should not be misled by messages to paint the UDP in a different perspective. “We should go to the people and ask them to vote for us on the basis of our performance and on issues,” he said.
The UDP president also said that he has received inputs from the ground that show people have a different kind of mindset while voting in the ADC elections.
