Five persons are missing in a mine accident that occurred on the evening of May 30.
Of the five three have been identified as – Abdul Karim of Boko, Assam, Abdul Kalam of Barpeta, Assam and Shyamcharan Debbarma, Tripura, the other two unidentified persons are from Silchar, Assam.
Police informed that the five got trapped in the sudden gush of water into the mine due to the sudden explosion of dynamite.
“The main culprit is the Sordar by the name of Nazim Ali, who did nothing to help the trapped persons and is absconding,” East Jaiñtia Hills Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
One person has been detained for questioning but he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now in an isolation centre in Khliehriat, he added.
