Shillong, Sep 5: Three people of a family were arrested after they were found in possession of 30.58 grams of heroin in Shyamding village under Phulbari Police Station of West Garo Hills district, police said today.
Based on information, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) led a search operation at the residence of one Khaibar Ali (59) in Shyamding.
During a search of the house, the team recovered 85 vials containing yellowish powder inside an almirah and two soap cases concealed inside a modified gas cylinder. These items later tested positive of heroin.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma said besides Ali, his wife Moriom Bibi (45) and son Nur Zaman (20) were also arrested.
Police also seized cash of Rs 1,96,601, a number of gold ornaments, two mobile handsets, and 134 empty vials.
All three have been forwarded to the Court in Tura today under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
