Around Rs 1.9 lakh in cash was stolen by robbers armed with dummy guns in the Killing area of Ri-Bhoi yesterday morning.
According to Khanapara police, who rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call, the robbers were armed with wooden imitation weapons.
A similar incident in Ri-Bhoi took place in May, when men armed with dummy guns robbed an Umbuda stone crushing unit of Rs 80,000 in cash.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the robbers forcibly entered the premises and proceeded to steal from the office locker, making off with an estimated amount of Rs 1.9 lakh in cash. The perpetrators then fled towards a nearby jungle.
Fingerprints of the suspects were collected from the crime scene and police hope that this will aid in the identification process.
A case has been registered at the Khanapara police station and efforts are under way to apprehend the responsible individuals, with police also using the canine squad in their investigation.
