The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has decided to postpone its stir over the government’s failure to pay their arrears in salaries after new assurances that their dues will be cleared were made to the teachers.
The anger of the teachers boiled over after an order for the release of two months’ of pending salaries was made without the money being sent to the various districts.
An agitated group of teachers yesterday decided to hold twin protests at the Secretariat in Shillong as well as the Chief Minister’s office in Tura. However, last evening the teachers were assured that the issue will be sorted out at the earliest, leading to them calling off the stir.
“We have postponed our agitation after assurances. However, we have been pained at the government lying to us. If the situation is not sorted we will resume our agitation after the GHADC elections on April 12,” said Levastone Momin, the AGHSSASTA president.
