Pepper from South West Garo Hills will be bought and packaged by Everest Masala and Everest Food Products, a well-known manufacturer, distributor and exporter of ground spices.
In an official press release, the state government informed that 10 tonnes of locally produced black pepper was shipped to Mumbai from the Chapahati Prime Hub by Kerupara and Dingampara Integrated Village Cooperative Societies (IVCS) under Zikzak block on Thursday evening.
The shipment is on its way to Sundardas Ratansey Spice Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, before being packaged under the Everest brand.
This is the second shipment of locally produced black pepper from the district, the first being in 2023, when Dimiligre IVCS Ltd dispatched about 11 tonnes.
For the latest shipment, out of the total 10 tonnes, Kerupara IVCS collected 6.6 tonnes of black pepper at the rate of Rs 640 per kg, while Dingampara IVCS collected 3.4 tonnes at Rs 610 per kg, the difference in rate explained by differing quality standards.
