North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) vice chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla today appointed the pro vice chancellors for the Tura and Shillong campuses of the university.
Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh from the Department of Education has been appointed pro vice chancellor for the Shillong campus, while Dr. Fameline K. Marak from the Department of Garo has been appointed pro vice chancellor for the Tura campus.
The appointment orders were issued by the Assistant Registrar (Planning) today evening. The appointments are subject to approval by the Executive Council of NEHU.
The demand for pro vice chancellors for Shillong and Tura campuses had been raised by students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the university.
However, the demand for removal of the university registrar Omkar Singh and deputy registrar Amit Gupta is yet to be implemented by the vice chancellor.
The delay by Prof. Shukla to remove the two officials has led to the demand for his resignation by students who have resorted to an indefinite hunger strike since November 5.
