Ri Bhoi College, in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college, successfully hosted the District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament on its campus.
The event, centred on the theme “One Nation, One Election,” saw enthusiastic participation from students across the district, who engaged in thought-provoking discussions on critical national issues.
The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament is a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering youth engagement in India’s democratic processes. It provides a platform for young individuals to simulate parliamentary proceedings, debate key national topics, and develop leadership skills.
The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance awareness of India’s political system, empower young minds, and encourage active participation in shaping the country’s future.
The event was met with great enthusiasm, offering students from various educational institutions invaluable insights into the legislative process and the significance of civic engagement.
A panel of judges, comprising Dr. Elizabeth Kharkongor, Principal of Ri Bhoi College; Matthew Kenneth Makdoh, D. Rapsang, District Youth Officer, NYKS Ri Bhoi, E. Kharnaior, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Victor Suleiñ, a law student from the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), selected three outstanding students to represent the district at the state-level competition.
This competition will be held at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in Shillong, highlighting the students’ talent and dedication, as well as reinforcing Ri Bhoi College’s commitment to fostering youth participation in the democratic and political landscape of the nation.
