The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has launched a crackdown on cars and bikers with modified silencers and seized 17 of them today.
With the rise in cars and motorcycles with loud exhaust notes, the STP on January 20 has urged owners to get them removed and replace them with the original exhaust pipes.
Taking to social media to announce the special drive the police took today the STP reiterated and urged citizens not to modify their vehicles with loud growling silencers.
“Strict action is being taken against violators,” it said and shared a short hashtag #MutingTheNuisance.
Vehicles, both two-wheelers and four wheelers, which are retrofitted with loud exhaust pipes causing noise pollution in the city, especially at unearthly hours, is in violation of Section 182A(4)/190(2) of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 causing inconvenience to residents of the city, the STP said.
